    Cargo laden boat capsizes in Bayelsa, passengers swim to safety

    A boat mishap involving a cargo and passenger boat MV Tari occured along the Yenagoa-Nembe-Brasss waterways.

    The ill-fated boat capsizes near Okoroma in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa and the passengers on board swimmer to safety whilest the cargo remained submerged.

    Mr Tari Dikuma, Assistant Secretary of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Okpoama unit, told our correspondent that the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon.

    Dikuma who was part of rescue operation at the incident site of the mishap said no life was lost but goods worth millions of naira was lost sdding that some items have been salvaged.

    “So far we have not recorded any casualty but we have salvaged a lot of items with speed boats, badge and open boats.” he

    Mr Asinim Butswat , Police Spokesman in Bayelsa said that the incident was yet to be reported to the nearby Police Division and hence could not provide details.
