As efforts to sustain offensive against drug trafficking and abuse, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Edo State Command, have destroyed two cannabis plantations with a yield of 1,388.42 kg and arrested four suspected drug traffickers in the past one week.
The Commander of Narcotics, Mitchell Ofoyeju, who is the NDLEA Edo State commander, disclosed this on Tuesday while detailing the command’s achievements across the state.
According to Commander Ofoyeju, NDLEA personnel, acting on credible intelligence, raided the Ago Forest in the Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state, where two large cannabis farms were located. The farms, measuring 0.362021 hectares and 0.229346 hectares, respectively, and totalling 0.555367 hectares, were completely destroyed.
According to him, The estimated yield of the illicit farm was put at 1,388.4175 kilograms. No arrests were made at the scene as the cultivators were not at the plantation during the raid.
In a separate operation, three suspected female and one male drug traffickers were apprehended during raids at the back of Oredo Local Government Secretariat in Benin City, the Oloku area of the metropolis, and Uduwuga in the Uhumwonde Local Government Area.
The suspects are Eniye Osague, a 25-year-old female; Osaretin Erabor, a 43-year-old female; Vivian Chukwuma, a 38-year-old female; and Osigwe Omogie, a 44-year-old male.
Eniye Osague, a 25-year-old female, was arrested behind the Oredo LGA Secretariat, Benin City, on May 15, 2026. Exhibits found on her are 272 grams of Scottish loud. Osaretin Erabor, a 43-year-old female, was also apprehended behind the Oredo LGA Secretariat, Benin City, on the same day with 914 grams of cannabis sativa. Vivian Chukwuma, a 38-year-old female who was arrested at the Hausa Quarters, Oluku, Benin City, was found with 315 grams of cannabis loud, 22 grams of Colorado, 38 grams of methamphetamine, and 30 grams of Tramadol 100 mg. The fourth suspect, Osigwe Omogie, was caught with 113 grammes of Cannabis sativa, 8 grammes of loud and 5 grammes of tramadol.
In addition to enforcement, the NDLEA Edo State Command, in collaboration with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), conducted a three-day School-Based Prevention and Sensitisation Programme in Benin City . The programme, with the theme ‘Anti-Cultism/Drug Abuse in Secondary Schools,’ focused on the topic ‘Drug Abuse as a Catalyst to Secret Cultism and Related Anti-Social Vices.’
The participating schools included Edo College, Western Boys High School, and Uselu Grammar School, all in Benin City, with a total student population of 1,505 males and 250 females. Facilitators for the programme were drawn from the NDLEA, the Nigeria Police Force, and Everlink Network.
