The All Progressives Congress (APC) has cleared 27 aspirants to participate in the House of Representatives primaries in Anambra State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The number, however, would have been higher if some aspirants had not stepped down in the interest of peace and unity within the party.
The state Chairman of the party, Senator Emmanuel Anosike, disclosed this on Thursday night while briefing journalists after a meeting with aspirants and stakeholders at the APC headquarters in Awka.
Anosike said the cleared aspirants emerged after undergoing the party’s screening exercise conducted by the APC screening committee.
According to him, the exercise was aimed at assessing the eligibility and preparedness of aspirants seeking the party’s ticket across the federal constituencies in the state.
“The aspirants may emerge either through consensus arrangements or direct primaries in their respective constituencies,” he said.
“Anambra APC under my watch is fully prepared to conduct free, fair, transparent and credible primaries that will convince Ndi Anambra that APC is ready to reclaim its lost ground in the state.
“Our members across the 21 local government areas are fully mobilised to support candidates with the capacity to make history in their constituencies during the 2027 elections.”
The APC chairman also said some aspirants who purchased nomination forms had become ineligible after allegedly taking the party to court.
“Some of those who bought forms took the party to court and are no longer eligible to participate in the primaries because they are no longer members of the party. They have been expelled,” he stated.
He added that the party was making efforts to ensure consensus in some constituencies.
“In Awka North and South, there were two aspirants and one stepped down. It is the same in other areas. Work is still in progress. The major thing we need going into the elections is unity and peace in the party,” Anosike maintained.
