One soldier has been reportedly killed and another injured following an ambush on troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.

According to Zagagola Makama, the troops were reportedly attacked on Monday while on a mission to assess a burnt vehicle along the SPDC–Etekuru road.

Security sources said the incident occurred at about 12:53 p.m. when the troops arrived at the scene to inspect a burnt Hilux vehicle.

On arrival, they came under heavy gunfire from suspected terrorists who had laid in wait.

During the exchange, one soldier was killed in action, while another sustained injuries.

The attackers were said to have carted away two AK-47 rifles and partially damaged a military vehicle.

Reinforcements were immediately deployed to the area, forcing the assailants to flee.

Further search of the area led to the discovery of two burnt vehicles and two corpses.

The bodies have been evacuated to a hospital morgue for further investigation, while security forces have launched operations to track down the fleeing attackers.
