LAUTECH Admits Error, Clarifies Misleading Report on NELFUND Loan Disbursement

    Published on

The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has acknowledged that earlier communication from the institution contributed to misleading media reports suggesting delays or reluctance in the disbursement of student loans by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

In a clarifying statement issued by the University management the institution admitted that aspects of its pre-convocation briefing were misinterpreted, noting that the presentation may not have been sufficiently clear, thereby triggering inaccurate headlines about the status of the loan scheme.

The University, however, firmly dismissed claims that NELFUND has failed or shown unwillingness to release funds, describing such interpretations as incorrect and unintended.

“While our earlier briefing was meant to provide updates and reassurance, we acknowledge that it may have inadvertently created a different impression in some quarters. We regret any confusion this may have caused,” the statement noted.

LAUTECH reaffirmed that its partnership with NELFUND remains strong, cordial, and highly beneficial to students. The institution highlighted that over ₦1.4 billion was disbursed to its students in 2025 alone, significantly easing financial pressures and improving access to higher education.

Providing further clarity, the University disclosed that about 19,000 students applied for the loan scheme in the ongoing 2025/2026 cycle, with more than 15,000 applications already verified. Out of these, 5,237 students have been approved, while others are still being processed.

The management emphasized that the disbursement process is ongoing and structured, urging stakeholders to disregard reports suggesting any breakdown in collaboration between the University and NELFUND.

Reiterating its confidence in the scheme, LAUTECH pledged continued cooperation with the Fund to ensure smooth and timely access to student financing. It also assured students and parents that all approved beneficiaries will receive their payments as the process progresses.

The University concluded by commending NELFUND for its sustained commitment and support, describing the initiative as a transformative intervention in Nigeria’s higher education sector.
