Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has warned land grabbers and trespassers to steer clear of all government-owned land or face serious consequences.

The governor expressed concern over the persistent encroachment on landed properties belonging to the Benue State Government, describing the trend as unacceptable and urging offenders to desist immediately.

Alia issued the warning on Wednesday during a familiarization visit to inspect ongoing construction work at the Commissioners’ Quarters in Makurdi, the state capital.

He stressed that under his administration, all government lands must be properly utilized and protected, adding that his government would not tolerate any form of illegal occupation or encroachment.

The governor also expressed satisfaction with the quality and level of work done so far at the project site, while urging the contractor to accelerate the pace of construction. He reaffirmed his commitment to providing quality and spacious accommodation for top government officials within a short period.

Alia further directed the Ministry of Works and Housing to ensure that all government properties are adequately safeguarded. He also noted that his administration is developing plans to improve housing infrastructure for civil servants as part of efforts to secure a better future for retirees.

He added that additional housing units would be constructed within the quarters to accommodate more workers and help reduce the housing deficit in the state.
