Aregbesola Explains Why ADC Lost in Anambra, FCT

    Published on

The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, on Tuesday explained the reasons behind the party’s defeat in the Anambra State governorship election and the Federal Capital Territory area council polls.

Aregbesola spoke during the party’s ongoing national convention.

Reflecting on the elections, the former governor of Osun State admitted that the party fell short for several reasons.

According to Aregbesola, “Our party participated in the 2025 Anambra State and the February 26 FCT local government election.

“We were not victorious for various reasons, including the fact that our opponents employed the power of incumbency, monetisation of the electoral process and misuse of state power.”

Aregbesola also acknowledged internal challenges within the party, including inadequate funding and poor organisational readiness.

“On our side, we suffered from poor funding and the general non-readiness of our structure,” he said.

Despite the setbacks, Aregbesola said the party had learned valuable lessons from the elections and was preparing for future contests.

“However, we have learnt from these lessons and are ready for the forthcoming Ekiti and Osun states governorship elections,” he added.

After the FCT Area Council elections, the APC won 5 of the 6 seats, leaving the last to the PDP.
