Alia Orders Dislodgement of Armed Herdsmen Camps in Benue Forests

    Published on

Governor Hyacinth Alia has directed security operatives to dislodge suspected armed herdsmen camps identified in forest areas across Benue State, following a fresh wave of attacks in parts of the state.

The directive comes amid renewed hostilities, with affected locations including communities in Apa Local Government Area, Otukpo, and Gwer West.

Raising alarm on Tuesday, the governor condemned the brutal attacks on Edikwu Ankpali, Ikobi, and Adija in Apa Local Government Area, which reportedly left several people dead.

Governor Alia described the resurgence of violence as unacceptable and increasingly complex, noting that criminal elements have been using forested areas as operational bases to launch attacks on innocent communities.

He stated that the latest directive mandates a sustained, intelligence-driven security operation aimed at flushing out the perpetrators, neutralising threats, and restoring peace across the affected areas.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, the governor said the state government is working closely with federal security agencies to tackle insecurity and ensure lasting stability.

He urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security operatives, and provide credible information to support ongoing operations.

Governor Alia also expressed sympathy with families who lost loved ones in the attacks, assuring them of his government’s determination to confront the violence decisively and enhance the safety of all citizens.
