Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has strongly condemned the recent killings in Gwer-East Local Government Area, allegedly carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen, describing the attack as barbaric and unacceptable.

Renewed hostilities were reported in the area on Sunday, with several persons feared killed in Mbalom community, sparking fresh concerns over insecurity in the state.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Tersoo Kula, in Makurdi, Governor Alia described the incident as a heinous crime and a direct affront to the peace and security of Benue State.

The governor expressed deep sympathy to the families of the victims and assured them that the state government stands firmly with them during this difficult time.

He noted with concern what appears to be a pattern of calculated and selective attacks in parts of the state, warning that such acts of violence, though increasingly complex, would not be allowed to persist.

Governor Alia reiterated his administration’s commitment to confronting and eliminating all forms of criminality threatening communities across the state.

He commended security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force, for their swift response, noting that efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice.

The governor urged security operatives to intensify their operations to prevent further attacks and restore lasting peace to affected areas.

He further assured residents that his administration is taking all necessary steps to strengthen the state’s security architecture, improve intelligence gathering, and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the protection of lives and property.

While calling on residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, Governor Alia encouraged them to support security agencies with credible information that could aid ongoing operations.

He reaffirmed that the Benue State Government remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring peace, justice, and security for all citizens.
