‘Timely And Strategic’ – Jimoh Ibrahim Speaks On Tinubu’s UK Visit

    Published on

The ambassador-designate of Nigeria to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, has commended President Bola Tinubu over his recent visit to the United Kingdom, describing it as timely and strategically important.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the Ondo South senator said the trip came at a critical period marked by shifting global alliances, stressing the need for Nigeria to remain actively engaged in international diplomacy.

Ibrahim noted that Tinubu’s meeting with Charles III underscored the longstanding historical and diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and the UK.

According to him, the visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in key areas such as trade, investment and security.

He emphasised that maintaining strong ties with traditional allies remains vital for Nigeria’s economic growth and geopolitical relevance.

The envoy-designate praised the President’s diplomatic approach, describing it as deliberate and forward-looking.

“President Tinubu has demonstrated that Nigeria can engage effectively across geopolitical divides, leveraging historical alliances while advancing modern national priorities.

“His actions are precise, timely, and strategically sound. Without doubt, history will be kind to him,” Ibrahim said.

He added that the administration’s foreign engagements reflect a clear understanding of evolving global dynamics.

Speaking further, Ibrahim said Nigeria’s diplomatic posture is in line with the objectives of the United Nations, particularly in promoting peace, cooperation and sustainable development.

He stressed that deeper engagement with key global partners would enhance Nigeria’s contributions to international discourse and policy direction.

The lawmaker maintained that strengthening relations with countries like the United Kingdom reinforces Nigeria’s position as a stabilising force in Africa.

According to him, such engagements also elevate Nigeria’s credibility within the international system.

Ibrahim said the President’s visit should not be seen as a routine diplomatic exercise but a calculated move aimed at repositioning the country globally.

He noted, “the visit was not merely ceremonial but a calculated effort to strengthen Nigeria’s global positioning and advance its foreign policy direction.”
