We’ve started ending insecurity in Benue – Gov Alia

    Published on

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has stated that his administration has begun a decisive offensive against insecurity, stressing that the threat must be completely eliminated.

He also commended the federal government for backing the state in its efforts to curb banditry.

Alia emphasized the importance of unity, shared responsibility, and continuous prayers in restoring peace and driving socio-economic progress across Benue.

The governor made the remarks on Wednesday evening while hosting Muslim faithful to an Iftar at the New Banquet Hall of Government House in Makurdi.

He described the gathering as both spiritually meaningful and a strong symbol of unity.

Speaking on the overlap of Ramadan and Lent, Alia said the period offers a unique chance to strengthen interfaith harmony and collective prayers.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, the governor urged residents to remain alert and support security agencies with prompt and credible information.

He assured that his administration would continue implementing strategic actions to protect lives and property in all parts of the state.

“This rare convergence of Ramadan and Lent is a divine invitation for us to unite in prayers for our state and our nation,” he stated.

Addressing ongoing security concerns, Alia acknowledged the challenges his administration inherited but insisted that the government remains determined and proactive in tackling criminal activities across Benue.

“While insecurity remains a concern, we are resilient in our commitment to confronting it decisively. With sustained efforts and the grace of God, we shall overcome.

“This monster is called insecurity, but we have started cutting the head and it must die”, he affirmed.

Reiterating his economic vision, the governor stated the need for collaboration among stakeholders to reposition Benue as an attractive destination for investment.

He said, “You must not like my head, you mustn’t like my nose. That is less important. You don’t need to like me. But think Benue, love Benue and join hands to make Benue great again.

“I invite all people of good conscience to join hands with me so that we can make Benue a place that attracts everybody”.

Alia further called on citizens to uphold love, mutual respect, and a shared sense of purpose, stressing that collective goals should take precedence over divisions.
