President Bola Tinubu on Monday hosted the Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, alongside other traditional and religious leaders at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The gathering was part of an interfaith breaking of fast (iftar) organised for leaders across religious and traditional institutions in the country.

Addressing the leaders at the event, the President said his administration had rescued Nigeria from an imminent financial crisis.

“At least, this government has saved Nigeria from going bankrupt. We are now shifting our focus to health, agriculture and education,” Tinubu said.

He added that with the economy now stabilising after the initial hardship caused by reforms, the government would concentrate on development across key sectors of the economy.

According to him, the administration remains committed to building a stronger economy capable of securing a better future for the next generation of Nigerians.

Speaking at the event, Sa’ad Abubakar III, who is also the Chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers, was represented by Yahya Abubakar.

He noted that the coincidence of fasting periods among Muslims observing Ramadan and Christians observing Lent symbolised the need for unity and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.

According to him, the development highlights the importance of harmony among Nigerians irrespective of religious differences.

The traditional ruler also expressed confidence that the Tinubu administration could address the security challenges facing parts of the country, while pledging the continued support and loyalty of traditional institutions to the government.
