Eric Chelle Not Moving to Moroccan Club, Says Super Eagles Media Officer

    Published on

Speculation over the future of Éric Chelle has been firmly knocked down by the Super Eagles camp, with team media officer Promise Efoghe dismissing reports linking the coach to Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca.

A report by Moroccan television outlet Le7TV had claimed the Malian tactician was on the verge of sealing a deal with Wydad and would take over from current manager Amine Benhachem.

Efoghe, however, rejected the claim outright, describing it as untrue and insisting Chelle remains focused on his job with the Nigerian national team.

“Good day friends and colleagues. Kindly ignore this story. It is fake news,” the media officer shared on the Super Eagles official media WhatsApp group earlier today, March 9.

Eric Chelle, 48, has attracted attention from clubs and national teams across Africa and Europe since guiding Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Despite the growing speculation, Chelle is still under contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) until January 2027.

The coach himself recently moved to calm the rumours, including talk of a possible switch to French side Olympique de Marseille.

“At the moment we’re speaking, of course I am still the coach of Nigeria,” Chelle said in an interview with histoiresdefootpodcast.

“I still have one year left on my contract. In fact, just yesterday I was in a meeting by video with my technical staff to work on the squad list for the March matches. So yes, I am still the coach of Nigeria.”
