National Population Commission (NPC) in Adamawa State has on Wednesday inaugurated its census publicity committee with a task to make sure adequate publicity is extended to parts of the state.
The inauguration officer, Dr Umar Garba Pella, Hon Commissioner, Adamawa State Ministry of information and strategies emphasized the need of information dissemination as one of the major yardstick of the census success.
Garba while giving his welcome address at the conference hall of federal Secretariat in Yola said every serious nation take census serious.
According to him census is the back borne of every country’s economy and as such no serious nation will wait until after seven years to conduct another exercise to count Your people.
He said every nation plan base on its population and one cannot plan, or develop well a nation without knowing the population of the country.
“the project is very necessary at this critical time. Let us be the vanguard of propagating the 2023 census. Community leaders, religion and traditional leaders must take it up. I want to assure you Adamawa State governments will always support you for this exercise to be a success.” Garba said.
On his part, the Hon Federal commissioner, National Population commission Adamawa State, Dr Clifford T. O Zirra, FCPA while addressing the committee members s byaid the overarching vision of the 2023 census is to produce not only accurate, reliable and acceptable census data but also an inclusive and user-friendly data that will be used by all segments of the society for development planning and critical programme interventions.
“Therefore , as part of this commitment, the commission will deploy full digital technology in the conduct of the census and it will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the results of the census is acceptable to Nigerians and the quality of the data to be generated meets International best standards. This aspiration has informed the methodology and quality of preparations for the census in the last few years. In all these, the need for advocacy, publicity and public enlightenment cannot be over emphasized. ” Clifford said.
While lending his voice also, the State Director, Adamawa state NPC, Abubakar Hamaadama said the exercise will continue to count on their support in educating, informing and sensitizing the people of Adamawa state on their processes and methodology for the conduct of 2023 population and housing census.
