    Tinubu, Gov Abdulrazaq meet over volatile security situation in Kwara

    President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, on Thursday, met in Abuja to discuss the security situation in the state following the bloody attack by bandits on two communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.

    The attack by the over 200 armed bandits claimed the lives of over 100 residents of Woro and Nuku communities in the local government, while several houses were also set ablaze.

    President Tinubu had earlier ordered the deployment of a battalion of soldiers to the areas after the attack to prosecute counter offensives codenamed ‘Operation Savannah Shield’.

    The governor also on Wednesday night, visited the areas for an on the spot assessment of the situation on ground accompanied by security chiefs and cabinet members of the government.

    At the time of the governor’s visit, 75 of the massacred residents had been buried, while the search for other corpses yet to be discovered is in progress.

    The bloody massacre in the communities attracted national and global condemnation.

    In a related development, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical, operational, and intelligence assets to Kaiama and surrounding communities.

    The deployment, according to the IGP, is aimed at restoring calm, strengthening security presence, and preventing further acts of violence.
