In its committment to ensure an end to terrorism and banditry across the country, the Nigerian Air Force has disclosed its plan to seek collaboration with Turkey.
This was made public by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke who joined President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, on a high-level official working visit to Ankara, Republic of Türkiye.
During the visit, Aneke reaffirmed the NAF’s unwavering commitment to national security through its resolve to delivering smarter air power for safer communities.
According to Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the spokesperson for NAF, the CAS noted that the visit serves as a push to strengthen Nigeria’s defence posture, deepen international partnerships, and accelerate defence modernisation in line with the evolving security environment.
Aneke said, “This strategic engagement reinforces our capacity to support ground forces more effectively, dominate the air domain, and decisively degrade threats confronting our nation.”
Also speaking, the Minister of Defence said the present administration led by President Tinubu is clear on the move to eliminate terorrism and banditry in Nigeria.
Musa said, “This administration is committed to equipping the Armed Forces with the right capabilities, partnerships, and technologies required to defeat terrorism, banditry, and other threats to our national stability.
“Our engagements in Türkiye are practical steps toward strengthening our operational effectiveness and self-reliance,” Musa noted.
The engagement with the Turkish government, Ejodame stated focuses on bilateral discussions aimed at translating shared interests into tangible outcomes.
These engagements, he said pinnacled into the signing of nine Memoranda of Understanding spanning defence, trade, education, media, technology, and allied sectors.
He also said that the agreements mark a significant step toward actionable cooperation, reinforcing Nigeria’s access to advanced technologies, structured skills transfer, and institutional frameworks that support long-term national security and development objectives.
