The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has accused the Federal Government of divide-and-rule tactics in negotiating better welfare for workers in tertiary institutions.

SSANU National President, Comr. Mohammed Ibrahim, expressed disappointment at the unveiling of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU Agreement, calling it a “half-measure” that would create more tension.

Ibrahim who spoke at the Federal university, Lokoja on Thursday lamented that the government has historically paid lip service to university workers’ welfare, emphasizing that they deserve better remuneration, comparable to security agencies, to produce quality graduates.

The Minister for Education last week announced 45% increase in the academic staff salaries but we’re silent on the the improvement packages for the Non-academics staff.

He urged the government to prioritize workers’ welfare, improve hostels and clinics, and fast-track negotiations with SSANU.

The SSANU president also criticized the government’s handling of the Abuja-Lokoja Federal Highway, which has been under construction for over two decades.

He however commended Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi’s leadership at Federal University Lokoja for providing exemplary leadership for the advancement of the University.
