    2027: I won’t leave Labour Party like Obi — Datti Baba-Ahmed

    Published on

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed has reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party (LP), insisting he remains loyal to the platform that produced him as the vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 polls.

Baba-Ahmed, 56, was the running mate of Peter Obi in the last presidential election, which the LP candidate lost to Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Following the election, Obi exited the Labour Party about two years later and aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a party now serving as the base for a coalition seeking to challenge the ruling APC.

However, speaking on Wednesday during a press briefing at the Labour Party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed made it clear that he would not follow Obi to the ADC.

The former lawmaker who represented Kaduna North said he is ready to offer himself for national service ahead of 2027, with a focus on contributing to Nigeria’s recovery and development.

He added that he does not share confidence in the ADC, dismissing those behind the coalition as “disgruntled politicians.”
