Cuba ready to fall after capture of Venezuela’s Maduro – Trump

    Published on

President Donald Trump has said Cuba is “ready to fall” following the capture of Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro by US forces, arguing that Havana can no longer rely on Venezuela for security and oil supplies.

Trump made the remarks late Sunday while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, following Saturday’s operation in which US forces detained Maduro and his wife on charges linked to an alleged narco-terrorism conspiracy.

According to Trump, Maduro’s removal has weakened Cuba’s strategic position in the region, as Venezuela is no longer able to support its allies financially and militarily.

Asked if he was considering U.S. action in Cuba, Trump replied: “I think it’s just going to fall. I don’t think we need any action. Looks like it’s going down. It’s going down for the count.”

His comments came amid growing regional reactions to the capture of Maduro, which has sparked protests and diplomatic tension.

Cuban authorities have accused the United States of violating Venezuela’s sovereignty and have called for rallies in support of Caracas.

US officials have alleged that Cuban security forces played a significant role in sustaining Maduro’s rule.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Cuban operatives effectively controlled Venezuela’s internal intelligence and security apparatus, including the personal protection of Maduro.
