Fubara denies rift with Rivers lawmakers, says APC defection misunderstood

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has pushed back against claims of a breakdown in his relationship with lawmakers representing the state, insisting there is “no quarrel anywhere.”

Speaking on Wednesday at the commissioning of the expanded 28.4km Ahoada–Omoku Road, Fubara dismissed reports of tension with federal and state legislators, describing the rumours as manufactured distractions.

Fubara, who on Tuesday defected from the PDP to the APC, said the narrative that he refused to engage lawmakers was false, adding that a planned meeting had already been arranged through FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, elder statesman Ferdinand Alabraba, and others before the rumours surfaced.

“Anyone saying I rejected proposals concerning the lawmakers is not telling the truth,” he said.

The governor urged Rivers residents to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration, explaining that his move to the APC was driven by a desire to stabilise the state, not by personal ambition. He called for calm and unity, cautioning supporters against deepening political divides.

Reflecting on the newly completed Ahoada–Omoku Road, Fubara said the project fulfilled a campaign promise he made to the area. He noted that the road would ease movement, boost commerce, and improve livelihoods. More projects, he assured, are on the way, despite the political tension surrounding his administration.
