Osun 2026: INEC, KDI deepen collaboration to strengthen election preparedness

    Published on

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State, Dr Mutiu Agboke, has reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to partnering with civil society groups ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

Dr Agboke made the remarks on Tuesday when he received the leadership of the Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) in Osogbo, praising the organisation for its objective analysis and contributions to electoral transparency.

He noted KDI’s efforts in training ad-hoc staff, simplifying election messaging for security agencies, and supporting journalists to better understand election management.

“Election administration is complex, and interventions like yours are invaluable,” he said, adding that INEC was ready to work with KDI on election-day monitoring, result collation, and public education.

Agboke also said the state had recorded no orchestrated attacks on INEC facilities since his assumption of duty — a development he attributed to improved public trust and responsible conduct by stakeholders.

Executive Director of KDI, Bukola Idowu, said the organisation focuses on voter participation, tribunal tracking, and election justice.
He commended INEC’s early preparations for the 2026 poll, describing them as unprecedented in Osun’s electoral history.

“KDI is already developing its programme for the election. We have seen strong commitment from INEC, especially in communication, logistics planning and stakeholder engagement,” he added.
