Wike revokes 13.25km Apo-Karshi road contract

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday, said he has revoked the 13.25 kilometre Apo-Karshi road contract awarded to Messrs Kakatar CE Limited has been terminated.
Wike, who disclosed this after inspecting the ongoing Karu, Gishiri, and Apo-Wasa (Outer Southern Expressway) road projects, said the contract has been re-awarded to SCC Construction Company under emergency which will be flagged off soon.
He expressed frustration with the delays and politicisation of the project since its commencement in 2011, then valued at N6.4 billion, which was a response to the need for an alternative route out of the traffic jam on Karshi-Jikwoyi-Nyanya road.
Wike had, in July 2024, visited the road, and pledged its completion within six months based on the company’s assurances, but he regretted that the company failed to deliver.
On the Karu, Gishiri, and Apo-Wasa, Wike said, “Well, I have always said, what makes the government feel relaxed is when the people are happy. Of course, the very essence of governance is to make people to be happy and make them have what improves their lives.
“When we went to Karu, you remember the first time we went to Karu to flag off, it was one road. And there, I made a promise that all the other connecting roads would be included.
“I am very happy to report the progress on the job. The contractor is doing very well. And that shows this is one of the projects we are going to line up for the 3rd anniversary of Mr President. I am quite impressed.
“Let me tell you the truth, we have terminated the Apo-Karshi road, it has been re-awarded to SCC. If you go there now, you’ll see that they’ve started work. It’s a road that so many people are very interested in because it will decongest some of these areas.
“So, that’s why we should do it, and like I said, we cannot continue to play politics when it comes to the welfare of the people. That road has been terminated,” he said.
