PDP crisis: Wabara appeals to warring members to sheathe swords

    Published on

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, has appealed to warring members of the party to sheathe their swords and prioritize reconciliation for the sake of the party’s unity.

Wabara made the call while chairing a BoT meeting at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro on Wednesday, emphasizing that the board would remain neutral and focus solely on mediating differences.

Present at the meeting were BoT Secretary Ahmed Makarafi, Jerry Gana, Senator Ben Obi, Josephine Anenih, Zainab Maina, and members of the Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC).

This marked the first appearance of NWC Chairman Damagum since the suspension of the Senator Anyanwu-led NWC last week.

In his address, Damagum commended the recent Oyo State High Court ruling, which ordered the PDP to proceed with its scheduled National Elective Convention in Ibadan.

He insisted that the convention must hold as planned, underscoring the party’s commitment to due process.

The BoT also announced the setting up of a reconciliation committee to address disputes and bring warring members together.

Members reiterated their support for the Damagum-led National Working Committee and insisted that the party’s National Elective Convention must go ahead as scheduled.

The crisis in the opposition party escalated over the weekend as the national chairman, Umar Damagum, along with some members of the National Working Committee (NWC), announced the suspension of the party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, National Organising Secretary Umar Bature, and other principal officers.

In a swift counter, Samuel Anyanwu led a separate faction of the NWC to suspend Damagun, National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, and four other principal officers of the party, deepening the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP.

While Samuel Anyanwu-led acting national chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed resumed at the PDP national headquarters on Monday, Damagum and members of the National Working Committee loyal to him were conspicuously absent.
