Sen. Natasha accuses Akpabio of ordering passport seizure

    Published on

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of directing airport officials to seize her passport, describing the action as political harassment.

In a video shared online, the Kogi Central senator said she was prevented from travelling after her passport was withheld at the airport for the second time in recent months.

“I have committed no offence. The officer told me the Senate President ordered that my passport be seized because he claims I smear the country’s image when I travel abroad,” she said.

She described the incident as “continuous embarrassment” and vowed to seek legal redress. “You have no right to withhold my passport or restrict my movement. This must stop,” she declared.

According to Akpoti-Uduaghan, President Bola Tinubu had earlier directed the Attorney-General to withdraw politically motivated cases against her.

“The President agreed that the charges were politically engineered,” she alleged.

The senator maintained that she has attended all her court sessions and is not a flight risk. “There is no court order against me. I have not missed any hearing,” she said.

She recalled that during a previous episode, her passport was released only after “someone influential” intervened.

Visibly agitated, she asked: “Why are you treating me like a criminal? Sometimes, you have to be a rebel to set things right.”
