    Published on

Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and democratic consolidation as the state hosts the All Progressives Congress (APC) first public hearing on constitutional amendment in Calabar.

The event marked the formal commencement of a nationwide process to strengthen internal democracy and expand participation within the ruling party.

Governor Otu, represented by the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, welcomed delegates and members of the Constitutional Review Committee led by Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for initiating the review process, describing it as a bold step toward repositioning the APC as a model of democratic inclusion.

APC National Vice Chairman (South-South), Victor Giadom, said the planned amendment aims to fill existing gaps and ensure a more functional and transparent framework in line with the President’s directive.

State chairmen, secretaries, and legal advisers from the South-South presented memoranda proposing key reforms to strengthen representation and dispute resolution within the party.

With the first zonal hearing successfully held in Calabar, the APC Constitutional Review Committee is expected to continue similar sessions across other geopolitical zones, as the party moves toward adopting a revised constitution reflecting inclusivity, accountability, and stronger internal democracy.
