Nothing wrong if senate belongs to APC — Bashiru

    Published on

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Bashiru, has said it is not undemocratic for every seat in the Nigerian Senate to be occupied by members of the ruling party.

Speaking at the APC Stakeholders’ Forum in Lagos State on Wednesday, Bashiru said the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term by the state chapter of the party reflects the unity and strength of the APC.

He dismissed insinuations that the party’s growing dominance poses a threat to Nigeria’s multi-party democracy, describing such claims as baseless attempts to discredit the ruling party.

According to him, democracy allows every citizen and political actor the freedom to align with any political platform, and if the APC wins all available seats, it remains a legitimate expression of the people’s will.

“Some people are trying to gaslight our party, saying we are moving toward a one-party state, and yet they also claim they want to drive our leader out of Aso Rock. These two positions contradict each other,” he said.

Bashiru urged members to remain steadfast, adding, “We must continue to mobilize, conscientize, and sensitize Nigerians to ensure that the APC remains the stronghold for electoral victory in all elections.”

He concluded that the presence of APC members across legislative chambers and state assemblies simply reflects the democratic will of the electorate.
