Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has commended the newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, for his impressive credentials and forward-looking vision for Nigeria’s electoral system.

During his screening at the National Assembly on October 16, 2025, the lawmaker described Prof. Amupitan’s résumé as “authentic, impressive, and befitting,” noting that the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos and professor of law is well-suited to lead INEC with integrity and competence.

She highlighted the significance of his appointment as the first Kogi indigene to head the electoral body, calling it “a proud moment for Kogi State.”

Senator Natasha particularly praised Prof. Amupitan’s proposal to introduce technology-driven electoral systems, including the potential use of drones to enhance transparency. She revealed that her office had earlier trained 80 youths in Kogi Central with DJI drones for community and election monitoring, expressing readiness to collaborate with INEC or the Nigeria Police for future polls.

The Senator further urged the adoption of electronic and online voting, citing the success of digital participation in programs like Big Brother Naija as evidence that Nigeria can securely conduct e-voting, even for citizens in the diaspora.

She also recommended the integration of national identification tools such as PVCs, NIN, passports, and driver’s licenses for voter verification, stressing that data protection technologies can ensure transparency and credibility.

Concluding, Senator Natasha expressed confidence in Prof. Amupitan’s leadership and urged him to uphold law, equity, justice, and fairness in conducting elections.
