The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that a total of 2.8 million registered voters are expected to participate in the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

INEC disclosed that about 140,000 new voters were registered in the state, while many others had transferred their voter cards to Anambra.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Queen Elizabeth Agwu, announced that the commission would deploy 5,903 BVAS machines for the election, with 978 kept as reserve.

“We have 5,720 polling units in Anambra State, plus 183 splits for those polling units that exceed the margin. So, we are deploying 5,720 plus 183 BVAS, and 978 BVAS as reserves,” Agwu said.

She added that 16 political parties and their candidates had been cleared to contest the election.

Agwu, who spoke at the Situation Room Dialogue Session/Strategy Meeting on the Anambra 2025 Governorship Election in Abuja, said the BVAS had not posed any problem during past elections in the state, and that the provision of reserve devices was only precautionary.

She assured that all personnel had been adequately trained and that INEC was fully prepared for a peaceful and credible poll.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command has identified election hotspots across the state and vowed to deploy enough officers to maintain law and order before, during, and after the election.
