NSC reaffirms commitment to Super Eagles’ World Cup ambition

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to ensuring Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, pledging full support to the Super Eagles as they chase a ticket to the global showpiece.

Shortly after the recent victory, the Commission assured football stakeholders and fans across the country that it remains focused on translating President Bola Tinubu’s vision for the national team into reality.

According to the NSC, preparations are already in top gear ahead of next month’s mini playoff tournament.

The Strategy Group (SG) — established with the President’s backing to galvanize support and drive performance — has “hit the ground running,” working closely with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to achieve the “much-desired result” of World Cup qualification.

Before the formation of the Strategy Group, the Super Eagles were in a precarious position, having collected only three points from their opening four qualifiers, dropping points against Lesotho and Benin Republic. Their World Cup hopes appeared to be fading fast.

However, fortunes changed dramatically following the SG’s intervention. Under its coordination, the team amassed 14 points from six subsequent games, recording four wins and two draws — a turnaround that reignited national optimism.

“The NFF knows that the progress we are witnessing today is the direct result of the Strategy Group’s hard work and coordination on this project,” an NSC official said.

With renewed momentum and government backing, the Super Eagles are now firmly focused on booking their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
