The Southern Summit of Former Legislators held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, brought together prominent stakeholders to strengthen national unity, with the Edo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Samson Osagie, among the notable attendees. Osagie, a former Member and Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, played a key role at the gathering.

The summit, convened by Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, CFR—former Speaker of the House of Representatives and current Chief of Staff to the President—was themed “National Unity – Bedrock for National Development.” Stakeholders deliberated on pressing national issues, commending the Federal Government’s initiatives to tackle insecurity and implement economic reforms.

Dr. Osagie, who also serves as Coordinator of the Edo State Chapter of the Nigerian Forum of Former Legislators and Chairman of the Communiqué Committee, presented the summit’s communiqué. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of collective effort, national unity, and consistent policy implementation, noting that these would foster stability and prosperity across Nigeria.

The Edo State delegation included former Deputy Governors Dr. Pius Odubu and Hon. Philip Shaibu, alongside Hon. Gabriel Oiboh, Hon. Razaq Bello-Osagie, Hon. Nosakhare Osahon, Hon. Dr. Patrick Ikhariale, Hon. Abass Braimah, Hon. Abdul Oroh, Hon. Friday Itulah, Hon. Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, Hon. Johnson Oghuma, and Hon. Edoror Victor, among others.

Participants at the summit advocated for national support for the principle of rotational presidency, reaffirming their commitment to collaborative leadership and equitable power sharing among Nigeria’s regions.

Similarly, stakeholders, including former federal and state lawmakers from across the country, pledged their commitment to unity and cooperation while charting a course for a more stable and prosperous Nigeria, with emphasis on the power of collective action in driving progress.

The summit further resolved to support President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, GCFR, for a second term, while backing the North to produce Nigeria’s president from 2031.
