Anambra has lowest kidnap rate in South East, says Soludo

    Published on

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has said that recent statistics show the state ranks among those with the lowest kidnapping rates in the country, contrary to opposition claims of worsening insecurity.

Soludo attributed the achievement to his security architecture, which includes the launch of the local security outfit Agunechemba and Operation Udo Ga Chi—a joint initiative involving all national security agencies.

In a press release issued on his behalf by his Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime, Soludo argued that the narrative of insecurity in Anambra is being exaggerated by political opponents seeking to discredit his administration.

According to data released by TheCable Index, covering July 2024 to June 2025, Anambra recorded only 63 kidnap cases—the same number as Adamawa—compared to Zamfara 1,203.

Reacting to the report, Aburime said: “The issue of security in today’s world has become a political tinderbox. Regardless of region or country, the presence—or absence—of security greatly influences governance and politics.

The recently released statistics by TheCable Index provide compelling evidence that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s innovative security architecture, anchored on the Udo Ga Chi allied forces and the Agunechemba vigilante network, is delivering exceptional results in the fight against kidnapping and violent crime.”

He added that while opposition politicians amplify isolated incidents to create a sense of crisis, the facts tell a different story:

“Numbers don’t lie. According to TheCable’s security report covering 36 states and the FCT, Anambra State recorded just 63 kidnapping cases in 12 months. This figure places the state 16th nationally and, remarkably, makes it the safest state in the entire Southeast region.”

Aburime stressed that under Soludo’s administration, Anambra has achieved security outcomes that surpass even states with traditionally stronger security reputations.
