2027: Tinubu should step aside if Nigeria doesn’t improve – Adebayo

    Published on

Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has warned that President Bola Tinubu should not seek re-election in 2027 if his administration fails to address Nigeria’s worsening challenges.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, Adebayo accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of mismanaging the country.

“If things remain the way they are in 2027, President Tinubu, in good conscience, should not be surprised if he’s voted out. Nigerians have suffered enough. His policies are not working,” he said.

The SDP chieftain noted that only a turnaround in key areas such as security, employment, poverty reduction, and the economy would make the 2027 race competitive. “But the way it is now, for the good of the country—and even for the good of the President himself—he should go home and thank God he has served four years,” he added.

Adebayo also played down the significance of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) recent decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, arguing that Nigerians are yearning for alternatives beyond the two dominant parties.

“APC and PDP are like Siamese twins. Nigerians want a new direction,” he said, stressing that SDP and other platforms remain viable options.

Meanwhile, the APC has already endorsed President Tinubu for a second term, a move critics described as premature and insensitive given the current hardship facing Nigerians.
