A People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Hon. Oladimeji Fabiyi, has criticised the party’s decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, arguing that the move has effectively handed over Nigeria’s opposition mantle to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement issued in Abuja, Fabiyi congratulated the ADC for becoming “the country’s foremost opposition party,” while accusing PDP leaders of betraying the party’s principles.

“When a party prioritises an individual’s wishes over collective interests, it is doomed,” Fabiyi said, blaming the zoning decision on Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and his allies within the ruling APC.

“By zoning the presidency to the South, the PDP has confirmed itself as an extension of the APC. The ADC now stands as Nigeria’s only credible opposition,” he declared.

Fabiyi urged the ADC to seize the moment by strengthening its internal structures and building a robust coalition capable of challenging the APC.

He called on Nigerians to rally behind the party:
“We must wake up, stand firm, and support the ADC to deliver the good governance and democratic progress the nation urgently needs.”
