The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended its immediate past Speaker, Aondona Dajoh, for three months over his alleged involvement in an impeachment plot against Governor Hyacinth Alia.

The suspension followed a motion of urgent public importance moved yesterday during plenary by Terna Shimawua, the member representing Kyan constituency.

According to Shimawua, Dajoh had called a meeting with other members at his house on August 21, where he allegedly planned to use the attendees to impeach Alia.

The lawmaker recalled that if Dajoh’s action was not averted, it could have thrown the entire state into confusion.

Seconding the motion, Abu Umoru, member representing Apa Constituency, also insisted that Dajoh’s actions deserved suspension.

The House presided by the new Speaker, Alfred Emberga, subsequently suspended Dajoh from legislative duty for three months and condemned his actions.

It is worth noting that there have been reports of a rift between Alia and Dajoh, with some sources suggesting that Alia’s camp had been planning to remove Dajoh as the Speaker.

The Benue State Government has, on the other hand, denied any involvement in the plot to impeach Dajoh.
