As political parties and their candidates prepare for the August 30, 2025, local government elections in Rivers State, issues of economic empowerment, provision of security, and general well-being of the people are top of the promises sold to voters in various local government areas of the state.
The Khana All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship Candidate for the August 30 Local Government Elections, Dr. Thomas Bariere, has declared that his second term in office will usher in a new phase of economic revolution in Khana.
Dr. Bariere made this known at the grand finale of the Khana APC Local Government Election Campaign held on Monday in Bori, the traditional headquarters of Ogoni land.
According to a statement signed by the Dr. Thomas Bariere Media Directorate, the chairmanship candidate noted that while his first tenure was largely dedicated to tackling insecurity and restoring peace, his next administration would focus on driving sustainable economic growth and improving the livelihoods of the people.
“The greatest challenge we had before now as a local government was insecurity. In the past three years, we fought insecurity to a standstill, restored peace, and returned our people to their homes. It is now important that we grow our economy. Politics as a way of life must translate into economic ideas that put money in the pockets of our people,” he stated.
Highlighting his economic blueprint, Dr. Bariere promised to establish the Khana Local Government Microfinance Bank to provide loans and grants to support small and medium enterprises, thereby creating jobs and empowering local businesses.
He also promised to set up the Khana LGA Transportation Company to ease the burden of high transport fares and improve mobility for residents and to invest in electricity infrastructure by expanding power supply beyond Bori into rural communities in order to stimulate commerce and industrial growth.
The APC chairmanship candidate also promised to enroll all paramount rulers across communities in Khana into the council’s payroll to strengthen grassroots leadership and enhance community policing.
Dr. Thomas Bariere emphasized that these initiatives are aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritizes economic empowerment, youth employment, and infrastructural renewal.
“Khana is one of the richest local governments in terms of natural resources. Our duty is to convert that wealth into real development that touches every household. We shall put food on the tables of our people, create jobs, and open up new opportunities,” he assured.
He therefore urged the people of Khana to come out en masse on August 30 and vote massively for the APC to consolidate peace and usher in an era of economic transformation.
The State Chairman of the APC, Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha, in his remarks, hailed the large turnout at the campaign rally, describing it as an affirmation that Khana is APC.
