Taraba govt dismisses N5.22bn spree on foreign trips

    Published on

The Taraba State Government has rejected reports claiming that Governor Agbu Kefas spent N5.22 billion on foreign trips within six months, describing the allegations as false, misleading, and unsupported by any official data.

The government issued the clarification on Monday following speculation in some media circles citing figures purportedly drawn from official sources.

The reports alleged that the governor’s international travels had incurred huge expenses, but state officials insist no such records exist.

In a statement, Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Zainab Jalingo, said the numbers being circulated were “fabricated and deliberately presented to mislead the public.” She maintained that neither the state budget, the government’s official portal, nor datasets from the National Bureau of Statistics contained any evidence to support the N5.22 billion claim.

“We have verified these records and encourage the public to do the same,” Jalingo stated. “Until proven otherwise, this figure remains nothing more than fiction.”

The commissioner emphasized the administration’s ongoing reforms in education, healthcare, and economic development, noting that tangible results are beginning to emerge from the Kefas government’s policies. According to her, meaningful transformation requires deliberate planning, tough decisions, and consistent effort.

The state government urged residents to disregard the report and to rely solely on verified information, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability, and factual communication.
