In its determination to eradicate the crime wave in Makurdi and its environs, the Benue Police Command has arrested suspected armed robbers, convicted many criminals in the state.

Briefing journalists on Wednesday at the command in Makurdi, the State Police Commissioner, CP Emenari Ifeanyi, hinted that no fewer than 26 armed robbers were among the arrests that were made in the month of July.

He stated that the police raids and arrests in some areas of the state have brought about the relative peace and peaceful coexistence that the state has witnessed lately.

“We have resolved henceforth that the command would embark on monthly activities to keep the general public abreast with activities.

“Some of the undesirable elements were whisked at Modern Market junction, Kanshio, North Bank and Sankera. We also recovered a Toyota Corolla vehicle and some household appliances during the raids.

“Twenty-two suspected cultists were also arrested during the period under review as we embarked on constant raids of black spots and patrol within North Bank, Wadata, and Ankpa Ward. The suspects have already been arraigned in court.

“Some of the items that were recovered during the raids include stolen motorcycles at hideouts in Awe Street in Wuruku for the month of July, following intelligence gathering.

“Other items are arms and ammunition. When we got a tipoff from good Samaritans, it prompted us to swing into action, and that’s the success achieved.

“A total of 176 arms were recovered from the suspected armed robbers at different spots in the state. This success wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the Benue State Government and other sister security agencies,” he added.
