A political group within the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has pledged that the party’s South-West chapter will spearhead the campaign to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement made the declaration in a statement issued Tuesday by its South-West coordinator, Abass Olaniyi.
According to the group, the PDP in the region is determined to reclaim power and “rescue Nigeria’s democracy” from what it described as the dominance of a privileged few.
The statement read, “The South-West PDP has shown clarity, courage, and commitment to the ideals of true opposition. This region will lead the charge to defeat President Tinubu in 2027, regardless of the interests of a select few.”
The group also criticised what it called attempts by certain figures to hijack the PDP for personal gain, insisting that the party must return to its founding values.
“The tide is now turning in favour of a value-based political rebirth. Those seeking to exploit the party’s internal challenges for selfish reasons have failed. Nigerians want something new, something honest,” the group said.
It further stressed the need for the PDP to field leaders with integrity and a clear ideological direction if it hopes to offer voters a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“To defeat Tinubu in 2027, PDP must offer what APC doesn’t have. That is integrity. That is principle,” the statement added.
The movement said it had begun mobilising supporters across the South-West and beyond to prepare the ground for a united PDP comeback.
