The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has congratulated Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, on their historic victory at the 2025 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau hailed the team’s 3–2 triumph over the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco in a thrilling final match played at the Rabat Olympic Stadium on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

Describing the win as a “moment of immense pride and celebration,” Senator Barau said the victory was a testament to the players’ resilience, talent, and unyielding national spirit, which continues to shine on the continental stage.

“I congratulate the Super Falcons and indeed all Nigerians on our team’s historic 10th WAFCON title.

This victory is not only a milestone in African women’s football but also a powerful reminder of what Nigerian athletes can achieve through dedication and unity,” he said.

Senator Barau, who is also the founder of Barau Football Club—which recently secured promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL)—emphasized that the Super Falcons have once again reaffirmed Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.

“The team’s discipline, determination, and passion throughout the tournament are truly commendable.

Their performance will inspire a new generation of Nigerian girls to dream big and pursue greatness,” he added.

He also extended special commendation to the coaching crew, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and all stakeholders who played a role in the team’s remarkable success.

“Kudos to the coaching staff, the NFF, and everyone who worked behind the scenes to bring this glory to our nation. The Super Falcons have made us proud.”
