Hands off Benin land, Osawaru files petition against Ned Nwoko

    Published on

A member of the House of Representatives for Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode Federal Constituency, Hon. Billy Adesuwa Osawaru, has submitted a fiery petition on behalf of the Aiguobasinmwin Movement, a key socio-cultural body from the Benin Kingdom.

According to Osawaru, the petition is incited by Senator Ned Nwoko, over his move to sever parts of Igbanke Community in Edo State for inclusion in the proposed Anioma State.

The petition, signed by movement leaders Osaro Iyamu Culture and Osayuki Osa-Benson, called on the House to step in immediately and stop what they describe as a brazen attempt to distort the cultural map of the Benin Kingdom.

“Igbanke is Benin territory. Always has been,” the petition reads, firmly placing the community under the spiritual and traditional domain of the Oba of Benin.

According to the petitioners, Senator Nwoko’s actions, seen as a subtle land grab wrapped in legislative ambition, are stirring unrest and raising ethnic tensions in a region fiercely proud of its heritage.

Presenting the petition, Hon. Osawaru slammed the Senator’s moves as divisive and dangerous.

“This incitement cannot be allowed to fester,” he warned. “We must act now to preserve peace and protect the sacred ancestral integrity of our people.”

Osawaru, a cultural ambassador and titled Benin Chief, said the proposed annexation was not just a political maneuver, it was a direct threat to centuries-old traditions, borders, and identities.

“The Benin Kingdom is not a buffet for political cartography. It is a living history, unified and indissoluble,” he thundered.
