Police investigate viral video of woman force-feeding baby with Alomo Bitters

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has launched an investigation into a disturbing viral video showing a woman feeding a baby with an alcoholic beverage.

The video, which surfaced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), was posted by content creator Chuks Eric on Sunday. It captures an unidentified woman holding a baby girl while pouring a sachet of Action Bitters, a widely consumed alcoholic herbal drink, into the child’s mouth.

A caption embedded in the video reads: “Every night just for her to sleep”, implying that the woman habitually gives the infant alcohol to induce sleep. It remains unclear whether the baby is her biological daughter.

In a statement released on Monday via X, the Nigeria Police described the act as “distressing” and condemned it in strong terms. The force emphasized that exposing a child to alcohol is both “illegal and dangerous.”

The Police also issued a public appeal for assistance, urging Chuks Eric and anyone with credible information to come forward to help identify and locate the woman involved.

“We are aware of this distressing video and are investigating urgently. Exposing a child to alcohol is illegal and dangerous,” the NPF stated.

“We urge @ChuksEricE and any member of the public with valuable information that could lead to the swift apprehension of this ‘mother’ to not hesitate to provide the same. They can reach out to us on 09169967000. The child’s safety is our priority.”
