Presidency Denies Akume’s Sack, Labels Replacement Rumour as Fake News

The Presidency has debunked widespread reports alleging the removal of Senator George Akume as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), describing them as baseless and false.

In a statement released on Saturday, Mr Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, said the rumours were the handiwork of mischief-makers spreading disinformation to cause political unrest.

“The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it,” Onanuga said.

He stressed that President Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments and remains focused on national and international engagements.

The statement urged Nigerians to disregard the rumour and remain vigilant against the spread of fake news, especially during politically sensitive times.

As of press time, Senator Akume has not issued any public comment on the matter.
