    Published on

The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that it will conduct Ibadan North Federal Constituency and other by-elections across affected constituencies on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

The elections are being organised to fill vacant seats in the National and State Assemblies, which have arisen due to resignations, deaths, or court annulments.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this during the consultative meeting with political parties in Abuja on Thursday.

According to INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the bye-elections will involve over 3.5 million registered voters in 32 Local Government Areas, 356 Wards, and 6,987 Polling Units. The Commission plans to deploy more than 30,000 election officials for the exercise.

However, bye-elections will not be held in Khana II Constituency of Rivers State due to a prevailing state of emergency, nor in Talata Mafara South Constituency in Zamfara State because of a legal dispute.

INEC also outlined key timelines: Party primaries: July 17–21, 2025, Submission of nomination forms: July 22–26, 2025 and Campaign period: August 2–14, 2025

In addition, INEC announced that Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Anambra State ahead of the governorship election will run from July 8 to 17, 2025, while nationwide online pre-registration resumes on August 18, with in-person CVR starting August 25.
