Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned a 55-year-old man, Afolabi Samuel, before an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly threatening to kill his wife and children.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court on Wednesday that “the defendant on June 22 at about 09:00 hours at Olokuta Matthew area in Ado Ekiti, did threaten to kill his wife and children by setting them ablaze with petrol which he bought and the matches he kept by his side”.
The prosecutor said, “The defendants on the same date, time and place in the Magisterial District did conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace.
“The prosecutor said the offence committed is punishable under Section 69, 181(d) Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria 2021,” he said.
Counsel to the defendant, Joy Raphael, urged the court to admit his client to bail, saying he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till July 22 for hearing.
Adeosun urged the defendant to behave well before the next hearing date.
