NEMA receives 147 Nigerian migrants from Niger Republic

    Published on

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed the return of 147 Nigerian nationals who voluntarily left Agadez in Niger Republic, with support from the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

In a statement issued Wednesday, NEMA said the returnees arrived at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport at approximately 12:48 pm on Monday, June 16. The repatriation was facilitated through a collaborative effort involving IOM and other partners engaged in migrant assistance and reintegration services.

According to the agency, the group comprised 143 adult males, alongside one adult female, one male child, and two female children. Upon their arrival, all individuals were transferred to Badala Hotel in Kano for profiling and further documentation, which continued through June 17.

NEMA noted that one returnee required medical attention upon arrival and was promptly treated by personnel from the Nigerian Red Cross.
The return of these migrants follows ongoing efforts by both Nigerian authorities and international organisations to provide safe and voluntary return options for citizens stranded abroad, particularly in transit hubs such as Agadez, a key waypoint for irregular migration across the Sahel region.
