Tragedy struck on Wednesday after a petrol-laden tanker exploded near the NASFAT end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command, Florence Okpe, confirmed the development, disclosing that the tanker fell while attempting to negotiate a U-turn.

“The tanker fell off when it was about negotiating that U-Turn. Although the tanker did not explode immediately, it exploded after some time,” Okpe said.

She added that FRSC officials and firefighters are currently at the scene working to control the situation.

When asked about casualties or fatalities, Okpe said that rescue operations were still ongoing and no information could be confirmed at this time.

“We cannot ascertain that right now until the rescue operation is completed,” she stated.
