President Bola Tinubu’s wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has disclosed that plans are underway to give N200,000 to 250 persons with disabilities in the country.

According to the First Lady, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) has made significant progress in supporting Nigerian people, particularly women and youth, towards building a better life for their families, since 2003.

Tinubu stated this on Friday while formally handing over essential food commodities to Abians through the wife of the state governor and RHI State Coordinator, Priscilla Chidinma Otti, for onward distribution to the vulnerable groups under the Renewed Hope Initiative Social Investment Scope (RHISIS).

The first lady, who was represented by the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima, disclosed that they have successfully donated food items to 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory, namely, Benue, Cross River, Oyo, Delta, Edo, Ikiti, Gombe, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, and Nasarawa states.

She assured that there will be more activities this year under the five scopes of the RHI.

“Under our social investment, we are collaborating with the Federation of Environmentalists to establish the Environment Club for Senior Secondary School Students and the Environment Society for Students in tertiary institutions nationwide to help us clean up our environment and grow more trees.

“Also, under our economic empowerment, we will be giving a grant of 200,000 Naira for 250 persons with disabilities to recapitalize their existing small businesses in the 36 states and the federal capital territories.

“Under our education, we will be introducing floor with confidence, during which we will distribute 10,000 packs, a year’s supply of sanitary pads to each state, sanitary pads to each of our young girls, particularly those in rural communities in each state to encourage them to remain in school during their menstrual cycle.

“These programmes aim to further complement the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in making life better for our people.

“As we distribute food items to families today, we implore and encourage you to make diligent use of these items” and urged beneficiaries not to sell the food items which are intended to support their families,” Shettima said.

In her speech, the wife of the Abia State Governor, Lady Otti, who is the RHI State Coordinator and Chief host of the occasion, thanked Sen. Tinubu for her intervention in the critical area of food outreach to alleviate hunger in our nation.

“Under the dynamic leadership of the First Lady of our great nation, we thank you for always looking out for your children in all 36 states of the Federation.

“The interventions of the Renewed Hope Initiative in Abia State have already had a significant impact across education, empowerment, health, and nutrition.

“This distribution exercise will continue in the coming week, ensuring that many more families across the state benefit from the intervention.

“The food items will be distributed equitably and transparently, with beneficiaries drawn from a wide spectrum of our states, including the women’s group, religious organisations, people living with disabilities, and all political groups, irrespective of their ethnicity.

“This is because we all know hunger has no ethnicity, religion, or political leaning,” she said.
