Bucknor-Akerele: APC Is A Mafia Organization Not Political Party

    Published on

Former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, has described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a mafia organisation rather than a genuine political party, expressing disapproval over the recent wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

In an interview, Bucknor-Akerele pointed to a growing disconnection between politicians and the electorate, accusing many political figures of pursuing self-serving agendas while ignoring the needs and sentiments of the people. Referring to an earlier remark by APC chieftain Adams Oshiomhole—that politicians’ “sins are forgiven” upon joining the APC—she suggested that many defectors are motivated by personal protection rather than public service.

She stated  “Really and truly, I do not feel that the APC is a political party. I believe APC is a mafia organisation.”

She also commented on the perceived alienation between citizens and leaders, “There is a disconnect between the politicians and the people… The politicians have their own agenda and they are not listening to the people who elected them. That is the problem we have.”

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Bucknor-Akerele expressed optimism for political change, predicting a shift in the current landscape.

When asked about the opposition coalition reportedly being led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, she said she is *not in support of any coalition at the moment*, arguing that it is too early for such moves. Instead, she emphasized faith in the PDP as the only viable political structure in the country, highlighting its grassroots presence.

“To me, PDP is still the only viable party. We are the only party that has structures on the ground in every single ward in Nigeria.”
