Finally, EFCC Reveals Why VeryDarkMan Was Arrested

    Published on

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has explained the reason behind the arrest of social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

According to Naija News, the EFCC issued a statement via its official social media platforms on Tuesday, confirming that Otse was arrested in connection with multiple petitions alleging various forms of financial misconduct.

The Commission stated that VDM had been invited several times for questioning but failed to respond to the summons, prompting his arrest. While acknowledging VDM’s past verbal attacks on the agency, the EFCC clarified that his arrest was based solely on the serious financial allegations against him, not his criticisms of the Commission.

    The statement read:
“In line with its duty to combat financial crimes, the EFCC invited Martins Innocent Otse following numerous petitions involving serious allegations of financial wrongdoing. Despite repeated invitations sent to his known addresses and communication channels, he did not appear. Given the severity of the claims, the Commission could not ignore the matter.

“We are aware of his frequent verbal attacks on our operations, which are inappropriate. However, this was not the basis for his arrest. A valid remand order was secured, and he has been offered administrative bail, pending fulfillment of the conditions.”

The EFCC urged the public to allow it to carry out its mandate impartially and without undue interference, adding that formal charges would be filed once investigations are concluded.
