Plateau, Benue Killings: Tinubu To Meet NSA Ribadu, Service Chiefs

    Published on

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to meet with Nigeria’s service chiefs upon his return to Abuja to discuss the escalating violence and killings in Plateau, Benue, and other parts of the country.
This reportedly follows his two-week professional trip to London and Paris.

After 18 days overseas, the President returned to Abuja on Monday night. According to the State House media office, the Air Force 001 plane that was transporting him landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 9:50 p.m.

Despite the continued presence of security forces, homes have been set on fire, over 120 locals have been slain by armed attackers since President Tinubu’s departure on April 2, and almost 3,000 people have been displaced.

At least 56 people have been killed in twin attacks in Benue, Logo and Gbagir, which have been attributed to armed herders.

According to several sources, President Tinubu is extremely worried about the deteriorating security situation and plans to meet with National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and the service chiefs to talk about the violence and lay out plans to deal with it.

“The President will undoubtedly meet with the service chiefs to review the security situation throughout the nation and the flash points of Plateau, Benue, and Borno,” a senior official with knowledge of the planning told The PUNCH. While he was away, he was given security briefings and instructed the security chiefs. His security chiefs will thus meet with him.
